A diehard fan of hers, a 29 year old guy named David Mathews, has started a fan page for her on Facebook, specifically mobilizing people to get her to host Saturday Night Live. And has the ploy worked… well, it could not have been better!
Her popularity among the tween crowd really began when she appeared in that Super Bowl commercial where she is plowed down to the ground by really hefty hunks. Almost immediately, people did research on her and found out about her impeccable comic timing and there she was, back in the reckoning all over again. The Facebook fan page urging people to get her to host SNL has more than 375,000 fans at the moment. This fan page was created before the Super Bowl commercial, but the commercial helped it jump up in its popularity. This despite the fact that Betty White has never hosted SNL before.
This is a great example of how a famous personality can be made famous again within a whole different group of people through the power of social marketing.
